2,4-Dinitrophenyl)-L-lysine hydrochloride monohydrate is a fluorogenic substrate. It reacts with an enzyme to produce a fluorescent product that can be detected using an appropriate instrument. 2,4-Dinitrophenyl)-L-lysine hydrochloride monohydrate has shown to be a useful tool for the detection of a wide range of enzymes, including alkaline phosphatase, esterases, and proteases. This substrate is used in the detection of bacteria in food and water samples as well as in diagnostics. It has been found to be useful for the detection of some types of cancer cells and in detecting the presence of dyes in textiles.
