1-(β-D-Arabinofuranosyl)thymine is a natural compound that belongs to the class of nucleosides. It has been shown to be active in cell-specific antiviral effects and to have biological properties against wild-type virus. 1-(β-D-Arabinofuranosyl)thymine is a dsRNA analog, which can function as a template for viral replication and may cause neuronal death by activating Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). This compound can also be used as a substrate for the synthesis of DNA or RNA. 1-(β-D-Arabinofuranosyl)thymine has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and induce lymphocyte transformation when administered at high doses.
