Ergosterol 3-b-D-glucopyranoside

Ergosterol 3-b-D-glucopyranoside (ERG) is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the effector proteins that are responsible for the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. It is also able to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and to increase cellular autophagy. ERG is an organic solvent, which can be used in the production of p-coumaric acids. ERG selectively inhibits the enzyme acetyl CoA carboxylase, which disrupts the fatty acid synthesis pathway. ERG inhibits adenine nucleotide biosynthesis and prevents ATP from being produced, leading to cell death.

Ergosteryl 3-beta-D-glucoside is the ergosterol analogue of a sterol 3-beta-D-glucoside. It has a role as a metabolite and a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite. It is a sterol 3-beta-D-glucoside and a monosaccharide derivative. It derives from an ergosterol.
