b-Cyclodextrin, Cycloheptaamylose

Beta-Cyclodextrin is the most abundant and cheap cyclic oligosaccharide that forms inclusion complexes with several drug molecules. Its main application is in tablet and capsule formulations.

β-Cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide with a cage-like supramolecular structure. The internal cavity is apolar and can form inclusion complexes with many compounds such as fats, flavors, and colors. This molecular complexation ability of β-CD is used in the food industry for flavor protection or flavor delivery and in the cosmetic industry for the controlled release of fragrances.

β-Cyclodextrin is a cyclic heptamer composed of seven glucose units joined "head-to-tail" by alpha-1.4 links. It is produced by the action of the enzyme, cyclodextrin glycosyl transferase (CGT),on hydrolyzed starch syrups. Cyclodextrins are able to form host-guest complexes with hydrophobic molecules given the unique nature imparted by their structure. As a result, these molecules have found a number of applications in a wide range of fields. β-cyclodextrins are used to produce HPLC columns allowing chiral enantiomers separation, and are also the main ingredient in P&G's product Febreze which claims that the β-cyclodextrins "trap" odor causing compounds, thereby reducing the odor.

Beta-Cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide with 7 D-glucose residues which are alpha-1,4-linked. Beta-cyclodextrin is used in the food industry to encapsulate flavours and fragrances. Beta-cyclodextrin can increase the water solubility of compounds, such as curcumin; further, the cyclodextrin-curcumin complex also allows for a controlled, sustainable release in a wound healing study.
